Mission-Driven: About 1 Percent for the Planet

The 1 Percent for the Planet organization was founded in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, owner of Blue Ribbon Flies. The idea behind 1 Percent for the Planet is simple: businesses pledge to donate 1% of their annual sales to environmental nonprofit organizations.

“We give businesses and individuals expert advice about giving strategies to Environmental Partners. Our recommendations encourage each business to invest in brand- and mission-aligned environmental solutions that are critical for the planet and that help the business thrive. We believe deeply in the power of shared goals and shared value creation. Similarly, we encourage individuals to align their giving with their personal vision of a healthy planet, while helping them focus on environmental solutions creating the greatest impact.”

Craig Mathews holds a BS with honors from Michigan State University. He went for post-grad study there in education and criminal justice while working in law enforcement. He and his wife Jackie came to West Yellowstone in 1979 from Grand Rapids, Mi. In 1979 they founded Blue Ribbon Flies. Craig and Jackie have won numerous conservation awards for their environmental work, such as "The Protector of Yellowstone National Park Award" presented by Yellowstone National Park, both The Nature Conservancy and Greater Yellowstone Coalition's coveted "Business Conservation of the Year" awards.

Since its founding, 1 Percent for the Planet has grown significantly, with over 1,200 member companies across 48 countries. These members have contributed over $225 million to approved nonprofit partners working towards a healthy planet.

In addition to monetary support, 1 Percent for the Planet also seeks to educate and inspire both businesses and consumers about the importance of corporate social and environmental responsibility. Through their campaigns and partnerships, the organization aims to create a global movement of companies and individuals actively working towards a healthier planet.

1 Percent for the Planet continues to strive towards its mission of creating positive change for the environment. Yvon Chouinard and other members actively speak about environmental issues and promote sustainable business practices, driving progress towards a healthier planet.

We use seaweed as the base for all of our products. That seaweed is picked by hand in Margate, UK. Why seaweed? Seaweed hydrates; it’s rich with valuable vitamins, minerals and amino acids; it’s anti-bacterial, skin rebuilding and anti-inflammatory; it’s all-natural, and all around us. Under licence, we harvest it by hand from the beach just steps away from our shop.

Raeburn https://www.raeburndesign.co.uk/

The RÆBURN RÆMADE philosophy has its origins in his fascination with military materials and utilitarian clothing. Established in 2009, Christopher’s never-ending ‘archaeological’ discoveries led to his first full collection (AW10 PREPARE) using de-commissioned military stock to create limited edition outerwear for both men and women. From wool field jackets to nylon parachute canopies, each RÆMADE style is produced by meticulously deconstructing the original and reworking the materials into unique and ethical garments.
